Ξεκίνησαν στο τέλος των 70’s απογειώθηκαν το 1978 με το ανεπανάληπτο Hold the line οι στίχοι του οποίου γράφτηκαν από τον κιμπορντίστα της μπάντας David Paich. Όπως είχε δηλώσει κάποια στιγμή άρχισε να παίζει στο πιάνο το riff της εισαγωγής. Το έπαιζε ξανά και ξανά και δε μπορούσε να σταματήσει. Αφού το έπαιζε για ημέρες πολλές ξαφνικά ξεκίνησε να τραγουδάει: "Hold the line, love isn't always on time"! Μετά απ' αυτό έκατσε κάτω και μέσα σε 2 ώρες είχε γράψει τους στίχους.
