"I Heard It Through the Grapevine" One Song/Three Versions

"I Heard It Through the Grapevine" είναι ένα τραγούδι που γράφτηκε από τους Norman Whitfield και Barrett Strong για την Motown Records το 1966. Η πρώτη ηχογράφηση του τραγουδιού που κυκλοφόρησε σε παραγωγή από τον Whitfield για τους Gladys Knight & the Pips κυκλοφόρησε ως single τον Σεπτέμβριο 1967 πηγαίνωντας στο νούμερο δύο στα τσαρτς του Billboard.

Οι Miracles για πρώτη φορά ηχογράφησαν το τραγούδι στις 16 Αυγούστου 1966 το περιέλαβαν στο άλμπουμ του 1968, Special Occasion. Η εκτέλεση του Marvin Gaye τοποθετήθηκε στο άλμπουμ του  The Groove το 1968, όπου κέρδισε την προσοχή των ραδιοφωνικών DJ και ο ιδρυτής της Motown, Berry Gordy, τελικά συμφώνησε να κυκλοφορήσει ως single τον Οκτώβριο του 1968, όταν πήγε στην κορυφή του Billboard Pop Singles για επτά εβδομάδες από το Δεκέμβριο του 1968 έως τον Ιανουάριο του 1969 και έγινε για λίγο ένα από τα μεγαλύτερα single hit στην ετικέτα της Motown (Tamla).

Εκτός από την κυκλοφορία αρκετών χρόνων από τους καλλιτέχνες της Motown, το τραγούδι έχει ηχογραφηθεί από μια σειρά μουσικών, συμπεριλαμβανομένου των Creedence Clearwater Revival, οι οποίοι έκαναν μια εκτέλεση έντεκα λεπτών για το άλμπουμ τους το 1970
Ο John Fogerty γεννήθηκε για να τραγουδήσει αυτό το τραγούδι με τη νότια προφορά και την ευρεία γκάμα της φωνής του.

Οι Creedence συμπεριέλαβαν αυτό το τραγούδι στο άλμπουμ τους Cosmos Factory στη δεκαετία του '70 και το έπαιξαν ζωντανά σε αρκετές συναυλίες.
